Scene Last Night: Four Seasons Calder, Ralph Lauren World - Bloomberg

The honoree was sculptor Alexander Calder s grandson Sandy Rower, founder of the Calder Foundation. As a result, the Four Seasons water shimmered underneath a Calder mobile for one night only as waiters served dover sole to art adviser Sandy Heller and artist Tara Donovan. When this building was designed, Calder was commissioned to make a sculpture for the plaza, Rower said of the Four Seasons home, the Seagram Building. It fell through. Nobody really knows why. Probably, he would have made a red sculpture in front of a black building, like he did in Chicago -- its called Flamingo, and its one of those marriages of art and architecture thats killer. I had to ask, could one buy a Calder for say, $1 million?
